OUR SECONDARY
STAGES
Our objective at this level is to hone skills acquired in the primary stages by providing the best student-centered education that makes uses of a variety of tools and techniques for building assertive, world-class leaders.
Lower Secondary – Bluejays
Pre-IGCSE - Years 7 & 8
The Lower Secondary programme is for students aged 12-14. Students must be at least 11 years old before the start of Year 7.
The Academy recognises the variety of abilities of learners and demonstrates this in the full menu of courses they study which includes English, Literature, Mathematics, Science, French, History, Geography, Economics, Music, Arts & Design, ICT and Global Perspectives.
Upper Secondary – Bluejays
IGCSE – Years 9 & 10
The IGCSE programme is for students aged 14-16. Students must be at least 13 years old before the start of year 9.
The academic curriculum in the Academy, while responsive to individual differences, insists that students follow subjects that are generally recognized as essential for rounded development and for entry to subsequent levels of education. The content knowledge of these courses is complemented by the development of a set of transferable skills, and the curriculum is organized to reflect an emphasis upon conceptual understanding.
In order to establish a secure knowledge base, competence in study skills and familiarity with key concepts, the full menu of courses is compulsory at Lower Secondary level. This provides a platform for entry to IGCSE level, where it is essential that exposure to courses in Language and Literature (English), in Language Acquisition (French), Information Technology and Mathematics is maintained. To these subjects must be added at least a further three courses drawn mainly from the Sciences, Humanities and the Arts. In turn, this breadth of curricular coverage is a necessary preparation for embarking upon studies for the IB diploma, where there are distinct requirements as to breadth and depth of study among the six courses chosen alongside the core components.
IB DIPLOMA
YEARS 11 & 12
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is for students aged 16-19. Students must be at least 15 years old before the start of year 11.
The IB Diploma Programme further challenges our students and best prepares them for the rigors of academic and social life in tertiary institutions globally.
The diploma student is required to offer six subjects: 3 HLs and 3 SLs OR exceptionally 4 HLs and 2 SLs, plus the core components of EE, TOK and CAS. Students are required to select one course from each of groups 1 to 5, and one further course from either group 3, group 4 or Visual Arts in group 6.
An alternative route is to offer the diploma certificate programme (DPC), in which the student offers 4 or 5 courses alongside TOK and CAS but is not eligible for the diploma. In this route, the EE is not mandatory.
